If you do decide to go with a clear coat we highly recommend testing the results on a separate piece of your vinyl wrap. Wait about 10 minutes for the first coat to dry. They can really stand out if only on the vinyl but it looks like it was meant to be that way if you cover the whole mug. Add one light coat of clear automotive urethane to the decal.

The clear coat that should have been installed over the base color will bind to the base color and create a uniformly hardened paint surface. Wait another 10 minutes. And likely it will only work well with die cut style vinyl decals not printed ones. I used an automotive acrylic urethane as my topcoat.

Allow that layer to dry completely before applying a second or third coat. Hold the can six to eight inches from the surface and use thin coats so the paint doesn t run. We recommend that you cover the entire mug and not just the decal because you will see some little brushstrokes. Then apply a second light coat. Spray one coat onto your vinyl. In all instances i had the company that does the vinyl graphics on our company vehicles supply and cut the vinyl. To seal vinyl decals on mugs simply cover the entire mug with some dishwasher safe mod podge.

Clear coat and acrylic type paints could and likely will disturb and smear most printed graphics.
